History of the Gitana Winery

Gitana is a symbol of the confluence of tradition and modernity, a return to origins,but at the same time a look to the future.

The location of plantations (390 ha of vines) on the south-west-heading slopes,fertile soils,and the influence of vicinity of Codrii Tigheciului and the Black Sea,provide exceptional conditions for grape maturation.

In the process of production of white wines, an important step is crio-maceration.Technique which allows extracting the maximum amount of flavoring substances that are found in the grape peel,without negatively impacting the quality of white wine.The white wine maturation takes place in stainless steel tanks or barrique (French barrels) of 225 l.

Fermentation for red wine takes place in oak tubs,using indigenous yeasts only. Maturation process takes place in Krasnodar oak barrels or in american oak barrels, in winery cellars for a period ranging between 6 months and 2 years.
