Chișinău → Rybnitsa → Kamenka → Rashkov → Stroentsy → Beloochi → Chișinău
A one-day journey to northern Transnistria — where the Dniester brings together ancient history, historic towns, picturesque landscapes and centuries-old winemaking traditions in one remarkable route.
The history of grape growing in this region goes far back into the past, as evidenced by archaeological materials associated with the Trypillia culture. Over the millennia, grapes became an important part of the region’s economy and culture. This history is especially evident in Kamenka and Stroentsy, where traces of historic estate agriculture and vineyard terraces have been preserved.
TOUR PROGRAM
09:00 — Departure from Chișinău
We head north towards the Dniester, historic villages and towns that preserve their past through architecture, landscapes and traditions.
11:00 — Rybnitsa
A short stop and an introduction to the city.
12:30 — Kamenka
Panoramic tour of historic Kamenka.
The main highlight is Wittgenstein Park, a unique example of 19th-century landscape garden art. The grounds of the former estate preserve historic avenues, ponds and canals, bridges, rotundas and other elements of the original park.
The park is located at the foot of picturesque slopes where vineyard terraces once stretched across the landscape.
Here, we will also discover the Wittgenstein family crypt, one of the most significant historical monuments of Kamenka.
The history of Kamenka reveals another important chapter of the region — the development of its spa and winemaking culture, which helped shape the identity of the northern part of the Dniester Valley.
14:30 — Rashkov
Rashkov is one of the oldest settlements in the region, first mentioned in historical sources at the beginning of the 15th century.
A short walk through old Rashkov will introduce us to the heritage of different cultures and historical eras. The town preserves an 18th-century Catholic church, an old synagogue and the Orthodox Church of the Intercession.
Rashkov is a place where history is felt not only through dates, but through the very space of the old settlement: its streets, buildings, legends and remarkable coexistence of different cultures.
16:00 — Stroentsy
One of the most picturesque destinations in northern Transnistria.
Here, the rocky slopes of the Dniester Valley have been transformed into famous vineyard terraces — a striking testament to the development of viticulture in the region.
Stroentsy is where one can best appreciate how people learned to work with the challenging local terrain, transforming steep slopes into vineyards.
